The Dumfries
University of the Third Age (U3A) is part of a national organisation. In the
UK there are 687 braches with
206,355 members and growing.
The U3A in Dumfries
currently has 235 members. Some of them are pictured in our
Photo Gallery - we are always
on the look-out for photos taken by our members. We are also
open to ideas for the formation of new Interest Groups.
The U3A
aims to encourage people in their 'Third Age' who are no longer in
full-time employment, to engage in educational, creative and leisure
activities at minimal cost by making use of the skills and knowledge
of its members. Since we learn for the pleasure of it, no
qualifications are required and none are given.
Interest groups
are led by members with a special knowledge or interest in the
subject they lead, so individual members are both learners AND
teachers, giving their services freely.
There are also monthly
meetings for part of the year, with guest speakers - the new
syllabus for the 2008/2009 season can be found under the link
Monthly Meetings.
We would
be pleased to send you a Welcome Pack with lots more information about
the U3A.
