Art - Enjoying
Art - Learning to look at
paintings and other art forms. Discussion of a range of works
to facilitate understanding and enjoyment of art. Mainly in members homes with
occasional visits to exhibitions and galleries

Art - Practical Art - Painting and drawing
with watercolour, pastels, pen and ink and other media - not oils (too
messy!). Help and encouragement from the group leader and other
members. |
Group 1 meets every Monday

Group 2 meets fortnightly on Fridays Sept to April - 10am-12 noon
at Gracefield. |

Book Group
- A book is chosen by the group each month for discussion at the next
meeting.
Intended to cover a wide range from classical works to modern
fiction. There are facilities to share books or obtain
multiple copies from the library.

Book Group - The Alternative Book
Group - This group brings together like-minded
people who enjoy reading. Members can share their individual book
choices with a view to introducing each other to new authors and genre. |

Cinema/Film Appreciation Group
- Meets
to discuss all aspects of film and cinema, based on a particular film or
group of films which will be agreed at the meetings, depending on local
availability. |

Meets in Dumfries for a discussion on
topical issues and to chat over a coffee.

Gardening
Group 1
- Visits to gardens, both private and public, involving either a
half-day or full day out depending on location, sometimes with guided
tour.
Meetings always incorporate a relaxed lunch giving time for a
discussion.

Gardening Group 2 - A
warm welcome for garden-lovers to enjoy Dumfries & Galloway’s garden
gems, both public and private. Either full or half day visits which
include an informal lunch in a friendly atmosphere. Good gardens, good
company, good food. |

History - Slices of History -
Group
exploring various aspects of history for a chosen time range, eg art,
music, engineering, sciences.
Members take it in turns to be leader. |

Philosophy
For Fun
- Group discussion on practical philosophical issues chosen by the
group. Topics have included free will, morality, crime and
punishment.

SingAlong
- Singing purely for pleasure – no
attempt at public performances! No experience necessary. Members will singalong, using a Songbook which includes traditional, and old
favourites. |

- A group for those who wish to enjoy a sociable swim or would like to
improve their swimming. Concession rates for over 60s. |

Walking - Ambling - For those interested in less strenuous walking.
Easy walks of about 3 miles in length. |
1st and 3rd Tuesdays each month, usually 10.30am at various local venues. |

Walking
(Nature Lovers) - Walking with the emphasis on
scenery and wildlife. Generally not strenuous, averaging around
5 miles. Full walking gear required. |
1st and 3rd Tuesday every month - assembling
at Dock Park car park, Dumfries |

Walking
('Over the Hill Mob') - Hill walking of
various grades, around 7-9 miles. Walks are chosen and led by
experienced members on an ad hoc basis. |
4th Wednesday every month - meeting at
various locations - shared transport leaving from Dumfries |

Writing
Together - Members seek to improve their skills in creative writing,
both prose and poetry. Topics are chosen by the group
in advance and members' work is read and discussed in a spirit of mutual
help and support. |
